adstringendum | 32. Community Service [video]

[Hello there, Adstringendum, it's your friendly neighborhood tribesman showing his smiling face to the network. For those not in the know, this is actually a bit of an uncommon thing for Sokka recently, so hopefully his enthusiasm can make an impression all around.]

Things have been rough lately, so I've got a few positive announcements I want to make.

First of all, Juliet and I are planning to start a community art project, and we want everyone here to have an option to be involved, regardless of artistic talent. Spirits know, I'm not exactly a great artist, but I'll be submitting some stuff anyway.

So, what do you need to do? Send us your art, of course! We'd like to have a visual history of what sticks out for you and your time here in the city: Special events, important moments, anything you'd want to illustrate. If you can provide a date along with it, all the better. Juliet and I have supplies, so all you need to do is ask and we'll get those to you if you need them or want them. When we've got everything collected, we'll put it into a gallery and it'll be like a visual history of Adstringendum. Pretty neat, huh?

Second point of order? We're still looking for people to join the Adstring City Players. We've got quite a few people interested now, but the more the merrier. Additionally, we're looking for story ideas. What do you guys want to see? Is there a particular genre we should focus on? Or even ones we should avoid? The more feedback we have on this, the better.

Annnd... [Blinking as he refers to some paper off screen.] Oh, no. That's it. So, um, thanks for your time, guys.

Or even by design. [He chuckles and watches as Appa bounds around the edge of the tub.] But at least we're in good company.

Mm. I've always been in good company, ever since I first arrived here. [That might be a pointed look, Sokka. Remember, you are the first person she's met here.]

[Spirits, Hermione, you sure know how to make a guy blush. After all this time, Sokka still finds himself flattered when the witch makes comments like that.]

One of the best choices I ever made. Too bad I never did find your wand like I wanted to. Still look for it when I'm walking back and forth, you know.

Do you? [That makes her grin a little. Honestly, Sokka, why so sweet?] Mine looks a bit different from Harry's and Ron's, so I'm not sure you would recognize it straightaway. But thank you. For caring whether or not I have one, I mean.

Are you kidding? There's nothing I don't care about when it comes to you, Hermione. We watch out for each other. [Somewhere between family and friends and something that means even more than that.] Weren't you trying to get a new one made?

[She takes a breath, nodding a bit.] Negi was going to help me with one, but then he was sent home. And then, after that strange event where they made us think ten years had passed, we'd apparently learned how to make wands; Professor Snape seems to remember more of it than I do, so he's my main contact as far as all of that is concerned, though Merlin has been helping as well.

How close do you think you are? [He lathers at Shakespeare, fending off Appa as he tries to make a big scene at the tubside, licking and grumbling excitedly at the other dog, and almost getting back into the tub himself.]

It's impossible to say. That's the trouble with forged memories, particularly when they're hazy to begin with. [As she speaks, Hermione moves to try and get Appa's attention, even if it means getting that wet dog smell all over her.]

[Appa responds with enthusiasm, bounding in her direction, wet hair shaking water everywhere. He makes as if he's going to jump up on the witch, but Sokka makes a sharp noise and the sheepdog immediately responds by sitting, tail wagging and tongue lolling.]

If there's anything I can do to help, you know I'm glad to do it. I could search for whatever you might need, or do research, or even try to talk to Snape about what he learned... [Not that Sokka would get any response.]

[Trying not to feel as though she's about to get caught in a stampede, Hermione throws herself into the task of petting Appa, or seeming to, at least. She focuses a bit of magical energy through her hands, beginning to let them slowly warm up enough to dry at the fur. When she speaks, it's clear her attention is elsewhere.]

Thank you, Sokka, but I'm sure it will be fine with what we have at the moment.

I'm sure you will be, too. [He offers a little smile as he finishes rinsing the smaller dog.] I have the utmost faith in you, Hermione.

[Though her smile is a bit on the absent side, her words are genuine enough.]

I'm glad you do. It means a lot, hearing that.

[He doesn't fail to notice that too-absent smile. As he stands straight, soaked head-to-toe from the tub, he tilts his head a little.]

I know things haven't been easy, but we'll always be here for each other. There isn't anything you couldn't ask of me, and there isn't anything I'd feel bad about asking you. That's what makes our friendship special. Unique.

[Appa is now dry and just a bit on the fluffy side, leaving Hermione able to look up at Sokka a bit more earnestly now.]

It wouldn't be much of a friendship if we weren't both willing to make sacrifices for one another. Harry, Ron, and I had a friendship like that... and I'm glad we do, too.

[Sokka nods and heads forward to ~~dry his hands~~ give Appa a good pet.] It's just the kind of friendship that lasts forever.

[She looks at him a bit fondly before she's able to give him an honest smile.] I certainly hope so.
